Ace Mahbaz is a dynamic Deaf actor, writer, and performer, a well-known artist in the Deaf community across Europe. Born in Tehran and raised across Europe, Ace has cultivated a truly international perspective that enriches his craft.

With a passion ignited during his teenage years, Ace has graced stages and screens in multiple countries, showcasing his exceptional skills in Visual Vernacular (VV) - a form of visual storytelling deeply rooted in Deaf culture. His performances, spanning six sign languages, have captivated audiences at numerous renowned festivals.

 

Ace's talents extend beyond acting. He's a two-time winner of Berlin's deaf poetry slam competition and has taken on iconic roles like Oberon and Theseus in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' at Shakespeare's Globe. As a co-creator of the first-ever sitcom series in sign language, Ace continues to break new ground in Deaf representation in media.

Currently dividing his time between London and Berlin, Ace brings his unique blend of cultural insights and linguistic prowess to every project, contributing to a more inclusive and diverse entertainment landscape. His upcoming role in BBC One's 'Reunion' marks another milestone in his dynamic career.

Stand Up Comedy

Ace Mahbaz was a part of Joe Bishop's Stand-Up "Life After Deaf" on ITV1. In this performance, Ace Mahbaz showcased his engaging Stand Up Comedy for both Deaf and hearing audiences.

A Commissioned Work for Pop-Kultur 2020, Ace made a unique video and ambivalent love letter to the vibrant city of Berlin.

Spring 2019

Hem - Riksteatern

This project features Ace as one of the three protagonists in the play "Hem" (English: Home), a play that presents a contemporary drama inspired by the testimonies of deaf people fleeing their countries. The play explores the challenges and fear faced by refugees, and delves into the struggle of surviving in a foreign land.

Performing Shakespeare

Performing Shakespeare is a project by Shakespeare's Globe created a filmed synopsis for each of Shakespeare's plays. Ace Mahbaz as part of the Macbeth team, directed by Sophie Stone. This project was developed to celebrate International Week of the Deaf and features.

Visual Performance

Deaf Visual Performance is featured on BBC Two that highlights the work of Deaf performers and the use of Visual Vernacular. The project includes an extract from Ace Mahbaz Visual Vernacular to showcase the talents and creativity of deaf individuals in the performing arts, aiming to highlight their unique contributions to the field.

Cat doesn't meow
